Deerfield's Progressive Impulse

Well-made Baskets for the dutiful consumer

Deerfield Basket Makers

All of the baskets designed and made by the Deerfield Basket Makers featured forms suited to their intended purposes and decoration limited to the pleasing patterns inherent to the weave itself. Materials were sometimes tinted using natural dyes. In addition to palm leaf and willow, this group created utilitarian baskets made of reeds, and small baskets and trays constructed of Southern pine needles woven tightly with raffia or linen thread.
