Eleanor Stebbins and Marion

Here Frances and Mary Allen capture an intimate portrait of idealized domestic life. Framed and separated from the world by an arch of twiggy vines, Eleanor Stebbins, on bent knees, avidly focuses on her daughter. The toddler, in turn, stretches, tiny fingers spread, to reach her mother's face. In addition to attentively raising her family, Eleanor Stebbins made baskets and sold the work of the Deerfield Basket Makers from her 18th century Deerfield home.
