Mary Allen, Interior of the Deerfield shop selling Pocumtuck Baskets, before 1915.

Nationally-acclaimed pictorial photographer Mary Allen carefully documented the Deerfield Arts and Crafts movement, including its artisans, artifacts and exhibition spaces. These photographs, appearing in magazine articles and other publications no doubt drew many Arts and Crafts enthusiasts to the town. The photographs which she took of Gertrude Ashley's shop appeared in the instruction and design manual Raffia Basketry as a Fine Art which Ashley authored in collaboration with her daughter Mildred in 1915.
