Deerfield Baskets

What the Deerfield Basket Makers Sold

The variety of craft objects offered by the Deerfield Basket Makers can be seen in this Frances and Mary Allen photograph. The decorative effect of each basket was limited to its shape and size and the weave or plaiting of its materials. As is suggested by the baskets assembled here, form and intended function were always married in the Deerfield Basket Makers' designs.

Promotional photographs such as this were often published in national magazines such the Good Housekeeping or House Beautiful, and drew many Arts and Crafts enthusiasts to Deerfield each year.
