Cherry Smoking Cabinet

Cherry Smoking Cabinet

© Private Collection

Caleb Allen contributed this hanging smoking cabinet of cherry to the exhibition held in the Village Room during the first Deerfield Old Home Days in 1901. The shell-carvings on the face of each cabinet drawer refer to similar decorations on Colonial furnishings.

Caleb joined with Dr. Edwin Thorn to create a Colonial Revival bride's chest, based on a particular Hadley chest which they studied in Deerfield's museum, Memorial Hall.
