Seated amidst a collection of old things, George Sheldon, open book in hand, strikes a venerable pose for the photographer, Emma Coleman. As the widely acknowledged Deerfield town historian and the principle founder of the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association, it is appropriate that Sheldon appears at ease beside both historical and scholarly references. George Sheldon sat for this portrait in PVMA's museum, Memorial Hall, in the spring of 1895.
