Postcard of The Old Sheldon Homestead, Deerfield, Mass., by an unknown creator, date unknown.

In May 1909, the home of weaver E. Jane Hawks became the site of a travelling exhibition of National League of Handicrafts Societies work, featuring weaving, stenciling, lace and embroidery. Between 1911 and 1930, E. Jane Hawks and Susan Hawks sold woven fabrics, baskets and antiques from this house built 1754/57, also the birthplace of George Sheldon, the town's resident historian and the founder of Deerfield's historical society, the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association.
