Home of Margaret Whiting

Co-Founder of the Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework

Blue and White Society co-founder, designer and business manager, Margaret Whiting lived in this house, located across the street from the Miller home where Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework embroideries could be seen and purchased. The Whiting house might also have been used for preparing a finished work for exhibition or sale. In 1911, a writer for the Christian Science Monitor recalled witnessing "a group of workers in the long kitchen of the Whiting house; all ironing out a splendid tablecloth, five yards long, wreathed with melons in blue and white, linked together by long curving lines and slender leaves. The delighted calm satisfaction of the ladies in their finished work has been an inspiration ever since."¹Harrow studios, located behind the Whiting house, was the site of several painting exhibitions, organized by Augustus Vincent Tack to coincide with the summer Arts and Crafts shows.
