The Pomegranate Motif
Pomegranates Squared
Yet another version of the Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework pomegranate square is this study in brown, plum and teal. This square, too, is comprised of an arrangement of mirrored quadrants. A relatively sparse, offset square at the center of the work, is pleasingly balanced by the work's corners featuring appliqued shapes of plum-colored fabric and a variety of subtle earth-toned stitches. Its design, its natural materials and its hand-crafted production would have appealed to consumers enamored with Arts and Crafts ideals and an Arts and Crafts aesthetic.
